Watch out, world. This 19- year old British singer will be on her way to receiving many accolades when she takes over the industry. UK’s Låpsley recently released her debut album, Long Way Home. This collection has plenty of talent to win us over.
“Heartless” sets the tone for the album, considering it is the first track. Låpsley’s emotions on this album are as raw as Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour. Even though the lyrics are very real and raw, the beat placed into each track, especially “Heartless”, compliments the dulcet moments of the album, such as the soft sound of a piano, an instrument featured in many tracks.
“Love is Blind” places the mellow, yet catchy once again, allowing Låpsley’s unique and mature voice to be showcased. More emotion is placed into the second track, “Hurt Me”, along with more of an upbeat tempo. Låpsley debuts her beautiful range throughout the song’s verses and chorus. It is easy for the lyrics to speak to the audience, as they are quite relatable, and convincing with Låpsley’s efforts into delivering each word. The first two verses of the chorus really sets the tone of the song’s message singing, “So if you’re gonna hurt me, why don’t you hurt me a little bit more? Dig a little deeper, a little further than before?” It not only displays vulnerability, but a bit of sarcasm as well. There is no doubt that Låpsley is singing from experience. “Seven Months” concludes this wonderful collection with the sound of piano keys and a contemporary beat, keeping that familiar and consistent sound. Even in this track, it seems Låpsley is singing from the heart and past experiences.
With that said, it displays the dependency she has in music as her personal therapy, as well as for her fans. As her emotions, lyrics, and talents are all laid out, it can easily be said that Låpsley’s fan-base will grow in no time.
